CHENEY, Wash.—Football coaches at Eastern Washington University dismissed a football player Friday, after he was arrested Thursday night.

Cheney Police arrested Chandler Gayton following a bar fight.

Police say officers arrested Gayton after he delayed responding to officers orders and had a gun on him.

Police say they were called to investigate a bar fight at The Eagle’s Bar and say they came upon Gayton urinating on a wall down a nearby alley.

As officers approached him, Gayton pulled out a 9mm gun.  He initially held the gun with both hands pointed towards the ground.

Officers say they ordered Gayton to drop the weapon multiple times, but that he did not immediately respond.  He eventually put the weapon down.

Gayton was arrested for possession of a weapon in a bar and for threatening or intimidating an officer with a weapon.

Cheney Police are working with campus police on the case and will pass along the details of the investigation to Student Affairs.

Police say Gayton does have a concealed weapons permit.
