University of Idaho freshmen Chad Chalich (QB, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) and Austin Rehkow (K/P, Veradale, Wash.) had stellar games in the Vandals’ victory over Temple University and were recognized by a variety of organizations.
"It's great," coach Paul Petrino said. "Any time you have two players win Player of the Week, it's a great honor for the program. When they're both freshmen, it makes it an even better honor."

Chalich, who completed 26 of 43 passes for 310 yards and ran for 114 yards on 14 carries, was honored as the Independent Offensive Player of the Week by FBS Independents and College Football Madness. He is the first Vandal quarterback to rush for more than 100 yards since Doug Nussmeier ran for 107 against Boise State on Nov. 20, 1993. Prior to Nussmeier’s effort, you have to go back to 1984 when Scott Linehan ran for 104 in a loss to Eastern Washington. Nussmeier passed for 198 to total 305 yards total offense and Linehan had 248 pass for a total of 352. Chalich had 424 yards of total offense, which ranks eighth all-time at Idaho

Rekhow, a true freshman who also punts, was successful on four of five field goal attempts to earn recognition as the Special Teams Player of the Week by FBS Independents and College Football Performance Awards. He also earned one of three stars awarded by the Lou Groza Award. Fans can vote for him as the Kicker of the Week at www.LouGrozaAward.com.

The Vandals are at home Saturday against No. 23 Fresno State in the annual Celebrating Agriculture in Idaho game. Kickoff at the Kibbie Dome is 2 p.m.
