RENTON, Wash. -- Late Tuesday afternoon, Seahawks receiver Percy Harvin tweeted he will need surgery.

On his account, Harvin tweets:   "when everything is goin good sometimes life throw u a curve ball... sorry to half to report that my injury will require surgery."

In a second tweet, Harvin adds,   "Nobody was more anxious and excited about season then....but I will be back strong as ever..i appreciate all the love and prayers 12th man."

NFL.com is reporting that recovery from surgery is expected to take 3-to-4 months.

Harvin has been bothered by discomfort in the area of the labrum in his hip.  Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has not indicated which hip Harvin is experiencing discomfort.

Seattle was also without wide receiver Sidney Rice, who Carroll said is in Europe undergoing a procedure to help with his knee. Carroll said the procedure is non-surgical and Rice is expected back on the practice field when he returns to Seattle.

Seattle was also without defensive end Cliff Avril, who has a hamstring injury.
