Seattle Seahawks All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman seems to never be afraid to speak his mind. Neither does ESPN contributor Skip Bayless.
The two went at each other via satellite during an interview on ESPN’s “First Take” Thursday after Bayless said Sherman was not in the same class as cornerback Darelle Revis.
Sherman was appearing on the show to promote his “Students With a Goal” campaign. But the All-Pro took the interview in a different direction.
"Whenever you refer to me, whenever you speak to me, whenever you address me, address me as All-Pro Stanford graduate because those are some accomplishments you can aspire to, you will never accomplish. You have never accomplished anything,” Sherman said to Bayless.
“I’ll accept that. I think I’ve accomplished more in my field than you have in yours, though you’re just getting started,” said Bayless.
“I’m the top of my field, so I’m All-Pro. I’m (one of) the best 22 players in the NFL. You’re going to brush it off, but I don’t think you’re (one of) the best 22 in anything,” Sherman responded.
"In my 24 years of life, I'm better at life than you,” he added.
Bayless asked that Sherman not make things personal, to which Sherman said it’s not personal, but just his resume’. Bayless then asked if he believed Sherman was better than Revis.
“I’m better than you,” said Sherman. “I have nothing to say about him. That’s pretty much done. The numbers speak for themselves.”
As the interview continued, Sherman didn’t let up on Bayless.
"I'm intelligent enough and capable enough to understand that you are ignorant, pompous, egotistical, cretin. That’s really what it comes down to. I'm going to crush you on here because I'm tired of hearing about it,” said Sherman.
Sherman has 12 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles and 119 tackles in his two years in the league. Revis has 19 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 294 tackles in his six years in the NFL.
Bayless reiterated his point that he believed Sherman was not in the same class as Revis.
“That’s when you lose credibility,” said Sherman.
“No, I gain it,” said Bayless.
