SEATTLE  -- A group of Seahawks fans set a Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium at CenturyLink Field during the Hawks vs. 49ers game.

The group called Volume 12 set the record during the Seahawks home opener, the Sunday night game on KING 5.

The previous world record of nearly 132 decibels was set in 2011 during a soccer match in Turkey. The Seahawks website says Seattle's 12th Man has been measured at 112 decibels. However, CenturyLink Field can hold 7,000 more fans than the stadium where the current record is held.

Guinness World Records attended the game as an official judge for the world record attempt.

The guidelines say Hawks fans would get three official attempts to break the record. There was no official "1-2-3 GO" cue from stadium officials.

The first attempt came in at 130.1.

Fans were notified about the results on the Volume 12 official Facebook and Twitter feed immediately following the attempt.

The Hearing, Speech & Deafness Center worked with Volume 12 to distribute thousands of free earplugs (courtesy of 3M), along with a Noise-Induced Hearing Loss prevention flyer to Seahawks fans attending Sunday’s game.
