SPOKANE – The NCAA has selected Whitworth University as the location of the upcoming NCAA Division III men’s basketball second round playoff game between the 6th-ranked Pirates and Emory University.
The game will be on Saturday, March 9th at 7:00 pm in the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
Whitworth is 25-3 after last night’s 75-69 win over Redlands in the first round of the national tournament. The Pirates are in their seventh straight NCAA tournament and eighth overall. Whitworth is the regular-season and tournament champion of the Northwest Conference.
Emory is 20-6 after rolling to a 77-56 win over visiting Randolph (Va.) in last night’s first round game in Atlanta, Georgia. The Eagles are making their first appearance in the national tournament since 1990. Emory finished in a three-way tie for the championship of the University Athletic Association (UAA) and received an at-large bid to the national tournament.
Whitworth and Emory have never met in men’s basketball, however the two schools just met up in the opening round of the women’s national tournament, a game won by the Eagles in Atlanta.
Tickets for the upcoming game are $10 for adults and $5 for students, youth and senior adults. All seating is general admission and tickets will only be sold at the door. Doors will open at 5:30 pm.
