Former University of Idaho linebacker David Vobora is blaming a tainted workout supplement for his positive drug test, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Vobora was suspended for four games with out pay by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league's performance enhancing substance policy.
"He is suspended under the NFL Anabolic Steroid policy but in no way has David ever used an illegal substance," One of Vobora's agents, Marc Lillibridge, told the Post-Dispatch. "He took a supplement that was tainted. A highly respected toxicologist has proven this to be the case. David did everything by the book in regards to investigating this supplement before he began using this product."
Lillibridge said that Vobora called an NFL supplement hot line and read the ingredients over the phone. He was told that none of the ingredients in the supplement would produce a positive test.
"We have fought the test results vehemently, but the NFL rules state that a player is ultimately responsible for what they ingest, so by the letter of the law, David will miss the next four games." Lillibridge said.
Vobora's agents say they are in the process of suing the company that manufactures the tainted supplement.
