The North Idaho College men’s basketball team is ranked fifth in the nation by the National Junior College Athletic Association poll.

The poll was released on Tuesday.

NIC won the Scenic West Athletic Conference last year and finished the season with a 27-4 overall record.

NIC returns two starters and six players overall from last season. Renado Parker was a first team All-American last season and posted 15.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. The other starter returning for the Cardinals is Guy-Marc Michel who contributed 8.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game last year.

A new addition to the NIC roster this year is Idell Bell from Lakeland, Fla., who played the 2007-2008 season at Brevard Community College in Florida and averaged 20.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

The NIC men’s basketball team will take on Community Colleges of Spokane in an exhibition game at Colville High School in Washington at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Cardinals home opener will be at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd versus the Spokane Athletics All-Stars.
