LAS VEGAS -- The Gonzaga women's basketball team, the top seed in the West Coast Conference Tournament, got the ball rolling with an 87-47 victory over the No. 8 seed Santa Clara in the semifinal game Sunday morning.
The Zags, who received a two-game bye in to the semifinal by winning the WCC regular season, have now won 17 games in the row and are 26-4 overall.
"I am proud of our team today," stated head coach Kelly Graves. "It took us a while to get it rolling but once we cranked it up on defense things started happening."
All 15 players saw action for Gonzaga, with 12 players scoring, including four in double-figures. Heather Bowman led the way with 18 points, while Vivian Frieson added 12, and Courtney Vandersloot and junior Janelle Bekkering chipped in ten each.
"It was a good first game; everybody got a taste of the tournament so that was very nice to see," said Graves. "We have had great senior leadership this year and they have done a great job of getting themselves and the team to just focus on the game ahead of them."
Gonzaga will face Pepperdine in the WCC Tournament final on Monday at 12pm. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
