ST. LOUIS -- Former Washington State University wide receiver Brandon Gibson was dealt to the St. Louis Rams before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.
In return, the Philadelphia Eagles get veteran linebacker Will Witherspoon. The Rams also received a 2010 fifth-round draft pick. Gibson was drafted by the Eagles in the sixth-round of the 2009 NFL draft out of WSU and made the team out of training camp after an impressive preseason. He has been inactive for all six games this season. During his career, Witherspoon has played both weak side linebacker, his starting position with the Rams, and middle linebacker. This season, the 29-year-old Witherspoon has recorded 36 tackles, third-best on the team, and a forced fumble. One of the most durable players in the league, Witherspoon has only missed two games in his eight-year career.
