One of the storylines behind the recent emergence of the Gonzaga women's basketball team as a national program has been the talent pulled from the Bulldogs' own backyard. Next year they are getting more reinforcements from the region.
Lewiston grad Chelsea Waters signed with Gonzaga in the fall, before leading the Bengals to their second straight state championship. The 6'1" wing was a three-time all-state selection.
On Monday night Waters played in the 19th Annual Jack Blair Memorial Girls All-Star Classic, scoring 14 points for the Region All-Star team.
Waters is excited to play college basketball so close to home, and be a part of the program's growth.
"I love the team and I just love the whole atmosphere, all the community support that Gonzaga has and I just want to be a part of the legacy up there," Waters said. "I'll be playing all over, is what Coach (Kelly) Graves told me. I don't have a set position, I can play anywhere and anything is what he told me, so I'm pretty excited."
