SPOKANE -- Eighth-ranked Whitworth used a 34-5 run that spanned the end of the first half and the first eight minutes of the second half to blow open what had been a close game in a 75-48 win over visiting George Fox in a Northwest Conference men's basketball game on Saturday night at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.

The Pirates improved to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the NWC while winning their 41st in a row at home.

The first 15 minutes was very tight. The largest lead was 19-14 Whitworth on a basket inside by Zach Payne. The Bruins (2-4, 1-1) pulled within 25-24 on a three-pointer by Anthony Sanchez with just under five minutes to play in the half.

But that's when the Pirates began their big run. Whitworth closed the half by outscoring George Fox 11-3 to take a 36-27 lead into the break. Whitworth then opened the second half by scoring ten straight points, five by Jack Loofburrow, to stretch the lead to 46-27. By the time Felix Friedt hit a lay up with 11:31 to play the Pirates had stretched the lead to 59-29 and completed their 34-5 scoring run.

George Fox got as close as 20 points twice later in the game, the final time when Spencer Bolte scored to cut the lead to 63-43 with 5:31 left.

Idris Lasisi scored a game-high 23 points and led Whitworth with eight rebounds. Friedt finished with 15 points and seven boards, while Loofburrow scored all 12 of his points in the second half.

The Pirates made 46% (26-56) from the field, 41% (9-22) from three-point range. Whitworth finished with a 38-33 edge in rebounding.

Mike Taylor led GFU with 18 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Sanchez scored a dozen points off of the bench. The Pirate defense held the Bruins to 33% (18-55) from the floor.
