SPOKANE, Wash. – Hoopfest organizers were hoping for the biggest year yet for its 25th year. One month out, it looks like 2014’s event could possibly pass the 7,090 teams that registered in 2012, the most to date.
This year, Hoopfest has room for more teams than ever with 60 courts going in on the north side of the river.
Spokane Hoopfest volunteers announced Tuesday they have room for 50 more teams. However, they still have several piles of paper registrations to process. Two weeks ago, 5,600 teams had registered. The past two weeks, Hoopfest has made a big push for procrastinators and now staff say it looks like close to 7,000 teams are registered.
By early next week, Hoopfest will close registration to start the detailed process of placing teams in brackets.
