SPOKANE -- The Gonzaga women’s basketball team closed the 2011-12 season by ending the year ranked No. 19 in the final USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll released Wednesday.
The Zags made their fourth-straight trip, and fifth in six years, to the NCAA Tournament in 2011-12 and reached the Sweet Sixteen for the third consecutive year. The No. 11 seed Bulldogs upset No. 6 seed Rutgers 86-73 and then knocked off No. 3 Miami 65-54 to reach the Regional Semifinals. The Zags season ended with a 79-62 setback to No. 2 seed Kentucky.
Gonzaga finished the year with a 28-6 overall mark and also won their eighth-straight West Coast Conference regular season title with a 14-2 mark in league play.
