SPOKANE, Wash. – It takes a lot of work for a school to host an NCAA tournament. For Gonzaga, it takes a lot of teamwork considering half of the university’s athletics staff are in Salt Lake City with the men’s basketball team.

The NCAA brings in a handful of people to help put on the tournament, but it’s primarily Gonzaga athletics department staff executing the plan. Dozens of volunteers have come forward from the Spokane community to help the tournament come together.

Gonzaga expects the McCarthey Athletic Center to be a packed house this weekend; Saturday’s games are sold out.

The No. 12 seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs play No. 5 Iowa State at 1:15 p.m. The school asks Gonzaga fans in attendance to “paint the kennel blue.”
