SPOKANE -- The Gonzaga men's basketball team didn't get any favors from the West Coast Conference to start the season.
The Zags, now ranked 17th in the AP Top 25 and 14th in the ESPN/USA Today Poll, opened conference play on the road last weekend against Portland (they beat the Pilots, 81-78). This week, they get two more tough games away from Spokane.
Gonzaga (12-3 overall; 1-0 in the WCC) plays at St. Mary's (15-2; 2-0) on Thursday at 8pm on ESPN2. They then face San Diego (8-10; 1-1) on Saturday at 6pm on FSN.
The two opponents play extremely different tempos. The Gaels like to get up and down the floor, scoring 82.5 points per game. The Toreros love to slow things down, averaging just 65 points per contest (Mark Few compares them to WSU under Tony Bennett). It will be interesting to see how the Bulldogs respond to the different styles.
Watch for previews of both games the rest of the week on KREM 2 News at 6pm, 10pm, and 11pm.
We talked to Few, Kelly Olynyk, and Robert Sacre at practice this week. To watch their uncut interviews click here (we highly recommend Sacre's interview if you feel like laughing).
