PULLMAN -- Ken Bone and the Cougs took a cue from the WSU football team, opening practice with a three-day retreat to Lewiston.
Tuesday afternoon they continued preseason preparations in more familiar territory. Bone has some big shoes to fill with Brock Motum and Mike Ladd now gone. The fifth year coach is a little shorthanded with JUCO guard DJ Lawhorn and Iowa State transfer big man Jordan Railey suspended indefinitely for violations of team rules.
WSU is coming off of a 13-18 season that ended in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament. They have a core coming back that features forward DJ Shelton and guards DaVonte Lacy and Royce Woolridge, who head into the season with something to prove.
"We get counted out a lot," Woolridge said. "This year we really want to turn it around."
