SPOKANE – To no one’s surprise the Whitworth Pirates dropped nine spots in this week’s D3hoops.com top-25 poll.  There was major movement throughout the poll as three of the top four teams, and half of the top ten, suffered losses last week.

Whitworth fell twice, at Whitman in overtime last Tuesday and at home to George Fox on Saturday.  The losses dropped the Pirates to 20-3 overall and 12-2 in the NWC, ending Whitworth’s 20-game winning streak in the process.  It marks the first time the Bucs have suffered back to back conference losses in four seasons (Jan. 2009).

Whitworth will close out the regular season in Oregon this weekend, at Linfield on Friday and at Willamette on Saturday.  Already assured of at least a share of the NWC title and the top seed in the conference tournament, the Pirates look to get the one more win that will clinch an out-right league title.  Whitworth can become the first NWC school to win four straight outright conference crowns since Whitman from 1927-1930.
