SPOKANE -- With another trip to the Sweet 16, the Whitworth men's basketball team has reason to be confident.

Matt Logie's team opened practice Thursday. The third year Pirates' head coach returns three starters and nine letterwinners from a team that finished 26-4 for the second straight year, and advanced to its fourth consecutive Sweet 16.

Whitworth returns four of its top-five scorers, but will have to replace All-Northwest Conference guard Wade Gebbers.

Forward George Valle says he is hungry for a National Championship, and that they have a team that is capable of that sort of run.

Whitworth tips off the season in Tacom against Trinity (TX) November 15th. Their home debut is a week lateer against Old Westbury.
