SPOKANE -- Four GSL baseball teams battled for two spots in Friday's district championship at Avista Stadium Wednesday night.

Ferris shutout Mead, 5-0 behind Spencer Ansett's complete game gem. Ansett scattered just six hits to keep the Panthers out of the runs column.

The Saxons will face Central Valley for the top seed to regionals, after the Bears handled Lewis & Clark, 5-2 in the night cap.

Scott Simon also pitched a complete game, allowing just two runs and seven hits. Simon helped his own cause by belting a two-run home run in the fourth inning to straight-away center field.

The Bears and Saxons will face each other Friday night at 7pm at Avista Stadium for the first and second seeds to regionals. The Tigers and Panthers will play in a loser-out contest at 5pm also at Avista Stadium.

In the 3A regional soccer tournament, Mt. Spokane played West Valley of Yakima for a trip to state on Saturday, while East Valley squared off against Sunnyside. Both Greater Spokane League teams lost and are now done for the season.
