SPOKANE -- In a rain-soaked affair at Avista Stadium, the Spokane Indians capitalized on a strong pitching performance from starter Santo Perez  for a 3-1 win against the Everett AquaSox.

The victory keeps the Indians in the playoff chase. Spokane trails Boise by one game for the final postseason berth, but that's all dependent on Tri-City winning the second half division title.

Perez held the AquaSox to just one run on four hits, striking out four and walking one. Kyle Hendricks backed up Perez with two scoreless frames and Matt West struck out the final two batters in the ninth for his eighth save.

The Indians offense drew first blood in the game as Zach Cone drilled a long home run in the third inning. Spokane scored twice more in the fourth on RBI doubles from Yefry Castillo and newcomer Jimmy Swift to extend their lead to 3-0.

Everett and Spokane continue their series on Thursday at Avista Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
