SEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners agreed to terms with right-handed pitchers David Aardsma and Mark Lowe on one-year contracts for the 2010 season. The terms of the contracts were not disclosed.
“We are pleased to have David and Mark signed for 2010,” Zduriencik said. “It was an important process to get to this point and avoid any distraction as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
Aardsma had a breakthrough season in 2009 recording 38 saves and posting a 2.52 ERA (20 ER, 71.1 IP) in 73 appearances. He ranked 3rd among American League closers in saves and 6th among AL relieves with 80 strikeouts. He converted 38 of 42 save opportunities, ranking 5th in the AL in save percentage.
Lowe set career-highs in appearances (75), innings (80.0) and strikeouts (69) in 2009. Among AL relievers, Lowe ranked 3rd in appearances, 4th in holds (26) and T12th in strikeouts (69).
