LEWISTON -- Five Lewis-Clark State players were selected on the second day of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Tuesday.
Catcher Kawika Emsley-Pai was the highest selection. He was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 10th round.
Lewiston High School product Tyler Knigge was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 12th round, while second baseman Josh Ashenbrenner was plucked by the Detroit Tigers in the 18th round.
Third baseman Brian Burke and shortstop Todd Muecklisch were picked by the Minnesota Twins. Muecklisch went in the 26th round, while Burke was grabbed in the 29th round.
Another local player was drafted as well. Mead High School graduate Peter Birdwell was selected by the New York Mets in the 25th round. Birdwell, a right-handed pitcher, also played at Whitworth University last season before wrapping up his career at Vanguard University in California.
