Indians lose big on opening night

In front of an Avista Stadium crowd of 6,478, the Spokane Indians dropped their 2012 opener 8-1 to the Vancouver Canadians.

Tim Hulett's club struggled at the plate on opening night, finishing with three hits and scoring their lone run of the game on a Nick Urbanus RBI single in the top of the eighth.

Vancouver broke the seal in the third, playing four runs with three coming on of a Balbino Fuenmayor home run. The Canadians finished with two home runs, with Dan Klein delivering a solo shot to left in the sixth inning.

John Kukuruda got the loss for Spokane, giving up four runs on two hits in four innings. He also struck out four.

Gonzaga grad Royce Bolinger went 0-for-4 with one strikeout in his pro debut. He started in left field, and hit fourth for Hulett.

The Indians and Canadians continue their five-game series Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
