Spokane, WA - The Texas Rangers announced today that they have assigned their third-round pick, catcher Patrick Cantwell, to the Spokane Indians. Cantwell will join the team in Everett for the remainder of their series against the Aquasox, and Spokane fans will have their first chance to see the talented catcher play when the Indians return to Avista Stadium on Monday, June 25th to start a three game series against the Boise Hawks.
Cantwell, a native of West Islip, NY, had a storied four-year career at Stony Brook University in New York that included leading the Seawolves to the 2012 College World Series; the first CWS appearance in the history of the school.
A talented and durable defender behind the plate, Cantwell threw out 60 of 90 (66.7%) base stealers in his career while setting the school record for games played. Cantwell also excelled at the plate, hitting .290 with 2 HR and 34 RBI and striking out just 11 times in 224 at-bats on his way to being named to the All-America East First Team squad in 2012.
Spokane has now received the Texas Rangers’ 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th round selections from the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft.
The Indians continue their series against the Aquasox tonight at 7:05 PM.
The Indians return to Avista Stadium on Monday, June 25th at 6:30 p.m. to face the Boise Hawks
