Mark Few keeps adding to an already talented 2014-2015 roster. On Sunday CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported that Vanderbilt transfer Eric McClellan has decided to attend Gonzaga.
BREAKING --- former Vanderilt guard Eric McClellan told @CBSSports he will transfer to Gonzaga. Story coming.— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) June 29, 2014
McClellan still has some academic requirements to finish up before he can be eligible, likely for the second semester beginning in December. According to Rothstein an NCAA waiver could allow him to play the entire season.
Gonzaga will be the 6-foot-4-inch Austin native's third school. He started his college career at Tulsa, before joining the Commodores. He led Vandy in scoring at 14.3 points per game as a sophomore, but was dismissed from the team after 12 games.
According to ESPN.com the punishment came due to a violation of academic policy, and that he was arrested last September for a misdemeanor charge of theft under $500.
In that ESPN.com article McClellan addressed the incident:
"I take full responsibility for what has happened," McClellan told ESPN.com. "I look forward to returning to school this summer and of continuing my goal of earning a degree at Vanderbilt and playing basketball for this coaching staff and with these players."
McClellan will join a stacked Gonzaga roster, and a deep backcourt that includes returning starters Kevin Pangos and Gary Bell Jr., along with newcomers that include highly-touted incoming freshman Josh Perkins and USC transfer Byron Wesley.
