SPOKANE -- The Gonzaga men’s basketball team left Spokane on Tuesday morning to head for Denver for the NCAA Tournament.
KREM 2 News talked to the players as they boarded the bus outside McCarthey Athletic Center. They say they are excited to be back in the NCAA Tournament.
Bulldog senior Steven Gray is making his fourth and final appearance, so he knows what to expect. Gray says for him the awe factor is taken out and he’s more determined and ready this time around.
For Junior transfer Marquise Carter, this is his first appearance. He says he is anxious to get on the road, get to Denver, and get focused in time for the match up with St. John’s on Thursday night.
The road to the Final Four is not so far for the Zags this year. Last year, the team flew across the country to Buffalo, New York. Now they are only one time zone away.
Junior center Robert Sacre says the situation is made better by the Zags entering the tournament on a nine game winning streak. He says, “ We are on the right track to be successful and this is where we want to be. I'm just fired up to get going.”
Kelly Olynyk summed up the Zags thoughts in one phrase, “Let’s get ready to rumble.”
