SPOKANE -- The Whitworth men's and women's basketball teams start later than the other local schools. Both teams open the season over the next couple of days.

The Whitworth women start on Friday against Northwest University out of Kirkland. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm at the Fieldhouse.

The Pirates are a new-look team, having graduated six players last season. There are now seven freshman on the roster and no seniors.

As for the men, they get going on Saturday at home against Loras College out of Iowa. It's the first season opener in Spokane in five years. They play at 8pm at the Fieldhouse.

Expectations are high for the Bucs again this season. They're ranked 16th in the country and they're also the unanimous choice to win the Northwest Conference.
