SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Gonzaga University women’s basketball junior Sunny Greinacher was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week after helping the Bulldogs to a big 2-0 week. Greinacher averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds, while shooting an impressive 65.0 percent from the floor and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe.
Greinacher began the week scoring a game-high 20 points - hitting 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-5 free throws – to go along with seven rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals in GU's 68-42 victory over BYU. It was Greinacher who took over in the final four minutes of the first half and allowed Gonzaga to go into the locker room up 33-21. She scored the Bulldogs final nine points, including an old-fashioned 3-point play with 10 seconds left that gave the Bulldogs the 11-point advantage.
The forward followed her opening weekend performance scoring 14 points - hitting 5-of-7 from the floor and all four free throws – and added five rebounds and one steal in Gonzaga’s 29-point victory over then-No. 24 San Diego. Greinacher again had a strong opening first half, scoring 12 of her 14 points (and only missing one field goal attempt) to help the Zags blow open a 50-27 halftime edge.
This is the second WCC Player of the Week honor for Greinacher this season.
