Mr. (Malcolm) Smith goes to Washington – along with the rest of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks to meet President Barack Obama Wednesday.

The Seahawks were invited to the White House for a ceremomy with the president to be held in the East Room.

It’s a time-honored tradition for championship teams to visit with the president, and the Seahawks are not the first Seattle team to make such a trip. Others include the 1991 National Champion Washington Huskies football team and the 2010 WNBA Champion Seattle Storm.

The 1979 NBA Champion Seattle SuperSonics did not get the opportunity when President Jimmy Carter was in office.

It was the second trip to D.C. in less than a month for Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and cornerback Richard Sherman. Both attended the White House Correspondent’s Dinner on May 3. President Obama used the opportunity to paraphrase Sherman’s classic post-NFC Championship Game rant during the dinner.
