The Aple Cup isn't the only time the Washington St. and Washington football programs do battle. Year in and year out they're also in competition for the state's top prep talent. In February of 2011 one tug-of-war took place at Gonzaga Prep.

Bishop Sankey appeared to have his decision made prior to his senior season with the Bullpups, having verbally committed to play for the Cougars. Instead, the Greater Spokane League's all-time top rusher inked with the Huskies, following a visit to Seattle the week before National Signing Day.

It's a decision sankey is pleased with nearly two years later.

Sankey says he is excited to get to play on the east side of the state Friday, in his first true Apple Cup experience after not making it onto the field a year ago. The Gonzaga Prep grad has rushed for 1,150 yards and 13 touchdowns in a breakout sophomore season. He's come on strong in recent weeks, including a 189 yard outing at Cal.

The Cougs are well aware of Sankey's ability, and history. Safety Deone Bucannon said Sunday, "everyone wants to hit him".

Sankey and the Cougs will be re-acquainted Friday at 12:30 p.m. in Martin Stadium
