It's not often National Letter of Intent Signing Day comes and goes without the Gonzaga men's basketball team adding new members to the their program, but that's what happened today.
In fact, Gonzaga and Eastern Washington did not sign any players on Wednesday, the first day of the early college basketball signing period. The Bulldogs, loaded with freshman this year, only have room to sign three players over the next two years. As for the Eagles, they expect to announce signings as they come in later in the period.
Washington State University finally signed Ephrata's Patrick Simon. The 6'9" forward committed to the Cougars when he was a freshman in high school in 2007 (he was 14-yeras-old). He is the only player who signed with WSU on Wednesday.
Idaho inked three local players for the 2010-2011 season. The Vandals welcome North Idaho College guard Idell Bell and forward Renado Parker. They also signed Walla Walla High School guard Gary Winston.
“It is very important for our program to be able to sign area players with Gary’s ability,” head coach Don Verlin said. “He is an unbelievable person with a great attitude and infectious personality.”
The early signing period for college basketball ends on November 18th. The regular signing period begins on April 14th and runs through May 19th.
