SPOKANE -- David Ledbetter, the third-round pick this year of the Texas Rangers, pitched beautifully to earn the decision in a 2-1 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils in front of 4,201 fans.
Ledbetter, who was making just his second start at Avista Stadium, had a no-hitter going through the fifth inning until Dust Devils first baseman Sean Dwyer singled. Ledbetter allowed just the one hit, two walks and six strikeouts on the night while lowering his ERA to 1.00.
Cam Schiller and Kevin Torres gave the Indians pitching staff all the help it needed. Schiller, who singled home right fielder Ryan Cordell in the fourth, also made a miraculous diving stop at first base to prevent an extra-base hit. Torres then belted a home run in the sixth, which gave the Indians a second run for the game's final margin.
Abel De Los Santos, Ryne Slack and Mike Zouzalik provided four innings of strong relief to preserve the victory. Zouzalik was credited with his team-leading third save of the season. The Spokane pitching staff allowed only two hits.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 17th, the Indians will host the Dust Devils for the final game in the series. The game begins at 6:30 PM.
