Spokane, WA - Indians second baseman Janluis Castro, a 2013 Northwest League All-Star, belted a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the 8th inning to give Spokane a 2-1 victory over the visiting Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in front of 4,676 fans during the Breast Cancer Awareness Day Game.
Kelvin Vasquez had quite the performance, pitching six innings while allowing just two hits -- a solo home run and a bunt single. Vasquez has allowed a total of five hits and one run in his past three starts to help lower his ERA to 2.72. The right hander from the Dominican Republic has a team-leading 48 strikeouts -- a mark good for second in the Northwest League.
Luis Pollorena made his Spokane Indians debut in the seventh inning. Pollorena, who was signed by Texas a month ago, tossed two innings of one-hit baseball to earn the win. John Straka got his first save of the season, closing out the ninth inning.
