SPOKANE -- Jose Trevino hit his league-leading ninth home run and the Indians pitching staff shut down the Hops as Spokane topped Hillsboro 10-1 in front of 7,061 fans at Avista Stadium.
Spokane’s bats got off to a blazing-hot start in the first inning. Luke Tendler hit his sixth home run of the year, this one went out of Avista Stadium into the parking lot past right field. Trevino doubled and then scored on a single from Pepe Cardona.
In the second inning, Diego Cedeno scored on a Tendler double. Tendler rounded third and crossed home after Trevino’s second double of the night nearly went over the center field fence. Trevino would tack on his homer in the fourth inning, a solo blast out to left field.
Spokane added five more runs in the eighth. Tendler started it off with a sacrifice fly to right, then Trevino’s pop up was bobbled to score Juremi Profar. Seth Spivey had a bases-clearing triple to center who was then hit in by a Cardona single.
Trevino had one of his best games of the season, finishing 3-for-5 with his Northwest League-leading ninth home run of the season, his 14th and 15th doubles, three runs scored and his league-leading 39th and 40th RBIs.
Austin Pettibone had his first start at Avista Stadium, pitching three scoreless innings with five strike outs while allowing just three hits. Reed Garrett came on for his first relief appearance of the season and kept the Hops scoreless for two more innings.
