SPOKANE, Wash. -- With a 2-1 lead with two outs in the top of the ninth, Spokane reliever Johnny Fasola gave up a two-run homer to Everett’s Corey Simpson which would ultimately decide the game, 3-2, as the AquaSox stopped the Indians from clinching a playoff berth in front of 4,448 fans at Avista Stadium
Indians starter Richelson Pena (4-1) was dominant in his performance, tossing seven one-run innings. His only miscue came in the second inning when he gave up an RBI single to Kristian Brito. Pena struck out four batters but left with a no-decision with the game tied 1-1.
After Saquan Johnson launched his second home run of the year to the Pepsi Porch to tie the ballgame, the Indians put pressure on in the bottom half of the eighth. With runners on the corner, Luke Tendler singled on a line drive to right field to bring home Isiah Kiner-Falefa for the 2-1 lead.
Missed opportunities were the story for Spokane, as they were only 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven men on base. Marcus Greene and Tendler were the only Indians with multiple hits in the game.
