Spokane, WA - Starter Derek Thompson allowed just three hits in seven innings with a whopping 10 strikeouts as the Spokane Indians clinched the first spot of the North Division Playoffs with a 3-0 victory over the Everett AquaSox in front of 4,639 fans at Avista Stadium. The postseason berth is the Indians first since the 2010.
Thompson (3-4) easily had his best outing of the season with highs in both innings (7) and strikeouts (10) while walking just two. He tossed 89 total pitches with 65 strikes to keep the Everett offense in check all night. Thompson walked two to lead off the fifth, but one fly out and two strikeouts later, the lefty avoided his only real threat in the contest.
Spokane struck early in the first inning. Isiah Kiner-Falefa singled on a line drive to right fielder and Marcus Greene hit him in with a single to center for an early 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Jose Trevino hit his league-leading eighth home run of the season and Juremi Profar followed with a single. Fernando Vivili hammered a double to left field to see Profar circle third to score the game's third and final run.
Shane McCain earned his second save of the season by tossing the final two innings. McCain allowed just one hit while lowering his ERA to an impressive 0.54.
