MOSCOW, Idaho – Nate Sherwood, a 6-foot-8 power forward from West Albany High School in Albany, Ore., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Vandals starting this fall.

Nate Sherwood -- the brother of Chad Sherwood, a freshman who redshirted for the Vandals in 2013-14 – averaged a double-double with 20.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game for West Albany during his senior season, leading the Bulldogs to the Oregon 5A semifinals before losing to the eventual state champion.

“Nate is a player that we followed last summer and then he absolutely blew up and gained a tremendous amount of confidence as his senior year progressed,” Idaho coach Don Verlin said. “He is a great person with great drive to excel. He plays with an edge and will continue to get better as a Vandal.  We know how hard his brother Chad plays and Nate plays with the same intensity.”

Sherwood was a 5A first-team all-state selection, the Mid-Willamette Conference Player of the Year, and a second-team state tournament pick for his work during his senior campaign. He poured in a 5A tournament record 43 points to go along with 17 rebounds in West Albany’s 76-74 win over Madison in the 5A third-place game.

“It’s a blessing to be able to play and to be blessed with my ability,” Sherwood told the Albany Democrat-Herald. “This has been my goal, and it feels good to be committed.”

Sherwood also excels in the classroom, earning a spot on the Honor Roll four consecutive years. He plans on studying Biology and Agriculture Engineering at Idaho.
