SPOKANE -- He's not much taller than your average 18-year-old, but Daniel Sims is the new slam dunk champion at Hoopfest.

Former Gonzaga star Ronny Turiaf, who was the judge of the contest, sent Sims, Zillah native Mitchell Zapien, and last year's champion Kenny Chandler into a three-way dunk-off to end it.

After Chandler missed both of his attempts and Zapien failed to wow the crowd, the door was open for Sims to win the crown. He only needed one attempt to get the job done.

Originally from Australia, Sims came to the states to play college basketball. He found a home in Port Angeles, Washington, and plays for Peninsula College.
