SPOKANE -- The schedule makers didn't do the Gonzaga women many favors, at least early on in the conference slate.

As 2013 ended and 2014 got underway, the Zags have spent much of their time away from the McCarthey Athletic Center. Of Gonzaga's first nine WCC games, seven take place away from Spokane.

On December 28th GU was dealt its first WCC loss in its league opener at Saint Mary's. They have since bounced back with two straight wins, including a 56-24 victory at Portland.

Still, that loss to the Gaels has Graves' squad in unfamiliar territory - in third place in the WCC behind No. 24 San Diego and BYU.  Those just happen to be the teams they are facing this week in the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs don't expect to get many free passes this year, and they're alright with that.

"It gives us a lot of motivation," guard Haiden Palmer said. "I think it's good for us, we need to compete this year."

Gonzaga hosts BYU Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
