SPOKANE -- As expected, the Gonzaga men's basketball team pounded visiting Augustana College 79-40 at McCarthey Athletic Center on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs are now 7-2 on the season.
Augustana, a DIII college from Rock Island, Illinois, never had a chance against the Zags. The overmatched Vikings trailed the entire ball game and were even behind 40-14 at the half.
13 different players scored for Gonzaga in the win. Steven Gray led all scorers with 12 points, while Bol Kong (10) and G.J. Vilarino (10) also scored in double-figures. The Zags' bench accounted for 45 points.
Matt Pelton and Kyle Nelson paced Augustana with eight points each in the loss. The Vikings, ranked 15th in the country in the latest DIII poll, are now 5-1 on the season.
Matt Bouldin, the WCC co-Player of the Week, only scored four points in 11 minutes of work. He left the game in the first half after banged heads with another player. Bouldin did not play in the second half, but he was on the bench with the team. Mark Few said Bouldin was "woozy" and was held out as a precautionary measure. He'll be reevaluated on Thursday.
