EDMONTON -- Spokane got its five game road trip off to a good start on Friday night in Edmonton as Blake Gal scored twice and dished out an assist in a 3-1 victory.
James Reid obviously deserves a lot of credit for the win as well. The 18-year-old goalie made 40 saves for his 11th victory of the year.
Gal opened the scoring in the first period with a short-handed tally at the 14:21 mark. The goal was assisted by Jared Cowen, his 11th helper of the season.
No one scored again until Levko Koper, playing in front of 300 family members and friends in his hometown, lit the lamp at the 7:24 mark. Gal struck again about a minute and a half later to make it 3-0. Koper assisted on the goal to give him two points on the night.
Reid was a little more than a minute away from his third shutout of the year, but Brent Raedeke finally put Edmonton on the board with 1:07 to play in the game.
Both teams struggled on the power play, going a combined 0-12 (the Oil Kings were 0-8 on their own).
The Chiefs are back in action Saturday night in Red Deer. The start time is scheduled for 6:30 (PT). Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA.
