As the six seed, Portland is the other WCC squad to earn a first round bye into Friday’s quarterfinals.
Santa Clara (seven), USF, LMU, and Pepperdine (10) rounded out the women’s bracket. The Broncos, Dons and Lions all finished seventh in the standings, and Santa Clara gets the highest seed due to its record against the other two. San Francisco swept LMU, making the Dons the 8-seed.
2014 marks the first year as a 10-team conference, and the WCC has adopted a more traditional 10-team bracket. Seeds 7-10 will play in the tournament’s opening round on Thursday, March 6. Quarterfinals will take place on March 7. There will be no women’s games on either Saturday, March 8 or Sunday, March 9, and the tournament resumes with semifinals on March 10 and the championship on Tuesday, March 11.
