SPOKANE, Wash. -- Former Zags basketball players have always known there was something special about their team. Today, the rest of the country recognizes it too.
Dan Dickau watched with pride this morning as his former team made history.
"I'm not on the team. I'm not on the staff, but I think if you talk to any former player, they've got a little bit of pride with Gonzaga and the number 1 ranking next to their name," said Dickau.
Another former Zag Casey Calvary knows the moment can also bring a lot of pressure. Calvary famously made a tip in Florida to take the Bulldogs to the Elite 8.
Both men say this ranking is a special accomplishment and a pivotal moment for the Zags basketball program. However, they know the teams work isn't done yet.
"They're excited. It's awesome. But in no way are they going to rest on that fact, they want to get down to business and keep winning basketball games.
They say they will both be watching the game closely this weekend to make sure the Zags hold on to the number 1 ranking.
