The Spokane Chiefs were shutout for the first time in the playoffs as the Portland Winterhawks took a 2-0 series lead in their Western Conference semi-final with a 3-0 win over Spokane Saturday night at the Rose Garden in Portland, OR. It was the 3rd time that the Winterhawks had blanked the Chiefs in 11 meetings this season.

Portland took a 1-0 lead after one on a Chase DeLeo goal at 13:17 of the period. Portland outshot the Chiefs 20-11 in the first. Nick Petan would extend the lead on a goal just 1:05 into the second period as the Hawks outshot Spokane 13-7 in the second. Brendan Leipsic's goal at 9:02 of the third would cap the scoring as the Chiefs were outchanced 10-9 in the period. Spokane was outshot 43-27, going 0-1 on the power play and a perfect 4-4 on the penalty kill against the league's top power play.
