PORTLAND, OR. -- The Spokane Chiefs avenged a loss to Portland the previous night with a 3-0 shutout win over Portland in the Rose City. With the win, Spokane improved to 7-6-1 on the season.
Stephan Ulmer’s power play goal 4:48 into the game gave Spokane a 1-0 lead after the first period. Ulmer’s slap shot from the point was assisted by Mitch Wahl and Blake Gal. Spokane outshot Portland 16-10 in the period.
Kyle Beach would extend the lead to 2-0 for the Chiefs after the second period with his team leading 11th goal of the season 7:27 into the second period. Beach’s 6th goal in his last four games was assisted by Wahl, who fed Beach in the slot from behind the net.
Tyler Johnson’s 8th goal of the year would put Spokane up 3-0 just 1:07 into the third period. Johnson’s rebound of his own shot net front was assisted by Gal and Brendan Kichton. The goal was Johnson’s 3rd in his last three games. James Reid had 34 saves to pick up the Chiefs first shutout of the season.
The Chiefs will return home to the Spokane Arena to host the Chilliwack Bruins Wednesday night at 7pm.
