KENNEWICK, WA. -- The Spokane Chiefs handed Tri Cities just their second home loss of the season with a 4-1 win over the Ams Friday night in Kennewick.

With the win, the Chiefs finished their 5 game road trip 3-1-1, and moved within 6 points of first place Tri in the U.S. Division.

Tyler Johnson would stake Spokane to an early 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal from Blake Gal just 3:09 into the first period. The goal was Johnson’s 5th in his last 4 games. Jared Cowen’s power play goal at 10:18 of the first would make it 2-0 Spokane. Jared Spurgeon and Mitch Wahl picked up the assists. Brendan Kichton’s first goal of the year, from Steve Kuhn and Ryan Letts, who picked up his first point of the year, came at 15:08 of the first to give the Chiefs a 3-0 lead after one. Spokane outshot Tri 19-12 in the period.

Wahl would extend the lead to 4-0 Spokane after two periods on a beautiful feed from Gal at 13:08 of the second period. Levko Koper also picked up an assist for Spokane as the Chiefs outshot Tri 23-10 in the period.

Brendan Shinnimin’s power play goal would spoil the shutout for Chiefs goalie James Reid at 13:57 of the third period. Spokane outshot Tri 47-42 on the night.

The Chiefs return home Saturday night at 7pm when they host the Regina Pats at the Spokane Arena.
