The Spokane Chiefs snapped a two game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Tri-City Americans Saturday night in Kennewick. With the victory, Spokane improved their record to 3-0 against Tri City and pulled into a first place tie with the Americans at the top of the U.S. Division.
The Chiefs would jump out to a 1-0 lead at 15:34 of the first period when Jackson Playfair tipped in a Tyler King shot. Playfair's first Western Hockey League goal was also assisted by Mike Aviani. Spokane would extend the lead to 2-0 after the first when Aviani scored on the Chiefs only power play of the night at 18:36. Jason Fram picked up the assist as Spokane outshot Tri City 10-7 in the first.
Todd Fiddler would score his third goal in his last two games with a slap shot at 8:11 of the second period to put the Chiefs up 3-0 after two. Tri City would outshoot Spokane 18-2 in the third period and score goals at 4:53 and 18:53 to draw within 3-2. Chiefs goalie Eric Williams would turn aside 16 of the 18 Americans shots in the third and had 35 saves in the game to win his 8th game of the season.
Spokane was outshot 37-20 in the game, but went 1-1 on the power play and 2-2 on the penalty kill. The Chiefs went 2-2 on their 4 game road trip and now return home for a 6 game homestand that will open with the Seattle Thunderbirds Tuesday night at 7:05pm.
