SPOKANE -- The Indians couldn't muster much offense on Tuesday night, as the Vancouver Canadians shutout Spokane 4-0 to win the first game of the three-game series.
First-round pick Alex "Chi-Chi" Gonzalez (0-3) was credited with the loss after pitching two innings, allowing one earned run and lowering his ERA to 6.35.
But it was Eric Brooks, a returnee from 2012, who shined on the mound for Spokane. Brooks went five strong innings, retiring 14 batters in a row at one point while the Canadians were holding onto a slim 1-0 lead. However, in the top of the seventh, Brooks allowed back-to-back singles, giving up one run. Vancouver would tack on two more runs in the eighth inning off of Indians pitcher Mike Zouzalik.
DH Roberto Duran broke his bat's silence, as he garnered his first two hits of his young Spokane career. RF Ryan Cordell and SS Alberto Truinfel added one hit apiece.
Vancouver starter, Kyle Anderson (1-0), a Woodenville, Wash., native earned his first win of the season, allowing just two hits in the start.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 26th, the Indians and Canadians meet at 6:30 PM.
