INDIANAPOLIS -- Deone Bucannon told ESPN.com last week he expected to exceed expectations at the NFL Combine. He also added that he thinks he can be a first round pick. After living up to that first part Tuesday, he improved his chances of fulfilling the second.

The former Washington State safety and the rest of the defensive backs worked out Tuesday as the Combine wrapped up in Indianapolis.

Bucannon ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds, which tied him for the third fastest time among safeties. His 19 reps on the bench press was also third for his position, along with his 36.5 inch vertical leap and his performance in the cone drill.

His 10-foot-5-inch broad jump was second longest of all the safeties.

Bucannon's performance no doubt helped his cause. He will have another chance to impress scouts at Washington State's Pro Day March 13th.

The 2014 NFL Draft begins May 8th.
